The Best Places To Sit With A Coffee In Philly

What better way to enjoy the city than to sit with a coffee in Philly and just watching people walk by to wherever they need to be?

Philadelphia is a very walkable city, but at the same time, it is also a very “sit-able” city as well. What we mean by this is that there is no area you can’t find that won’t provide you with a comfy seat, good view of the city, and a coffee shop nearby to grab a cup to savor.

Need a starting point of where to head once you grab that coffee? Here are a few thoughts:

Rittenhouse Square

Rittenhouse Square is a go-to spot for many people just looking to sit and chat with a friend for a few or just to unwind. With Joe Coffee, La Colombe, PS & Co. and many other coffee shops right around the corner, you can understand why Rittenhouse Square is a definite spot for sitting.

Be aware, during peak seasons the benches can get full pretty quickly!

Washington Square

A little more subdued than Rittenhouse Square is Washington Square. Aside from being farther away from the hustle and bustle of Center City proper, Washington Square is also in the quieter, more residential eastern side of Philadelphia.

Washington Square is definitely a place to bring your coffee, a book, and just sit and enjoy the trees, old city charm, and don’t forget to check out the Tomb of the Unknown Revolutionary War Soldier.

The Art Museum Steps & Garden

While the steps can get hectic, they are also a good place to just sit, stand, hang-out and grab a coffee. You cannot beat the view down the Benjamin Franklin Parkway and see everyone run up the Rocky Steps is enjoyment in itself. You won’t help but be in a good mood watching everyone enjoy themselves while you are relaxing and basking in the nice weather.

Belmont Plateau

A little secret place is Belmont Plateau in West Philadelphia. It offers a beautiful view of the city but with the vantage point being outside of the city itself–for added quiet.

Enjoy sitting under the large tree at the plateau, bring a blanket, grab a coffee at a nearby Starbucks on City Ave or bring a Wawa sandwich and enjoy.
